Speed Bump

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” -Proverbs 16:9

The last five weeks have been a whirlwind. The week of Christmas I started having pain which we believed to be kidney stones. After a week of intensifying pain I was advised to go to Australia to get the problem looked at and treated if needed. So we packed our bags and made the days journey to Australia. The next morning I was admitted into the hospital but they quickly ruled out kidney stones and instead believed that I had appendicitis. Two days later I had surgery to remove my appendix and later that night the doctors came in to tell me that my appendix was fine but they took it anyways and I could be discharged the next day. A week later we flew back to Papua New Guinea and two weeks later the pain has only intensified and spread. Our doctors here have ran out of tests and treatments, therefore, per their request, this morning we board a plane to start our journey back to the states to figure this out.

“He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.” -Psalm 112:7

Thats the spark notes version of a very tiring, emotional, and painful last five weeks we have had. Our hearts our extremely heavy with the thought of leaving PNG right in the middle of culture and language learning and right as our partners have arrived. This isn’t what we had planned but we are confident before the beginning of time God did. This isn’t what we wanted but we are confident God will use all of this for His glory and our joy.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28

Over the last seven and a half years of marriage there has never been a dull moment. From the list of hardships we have endured one thing has remained, His faithfulness. Every single time we have been stretched and burdened the Lord has knitted us closer to Himself and revealed more of His kindness, grace and mercy. If it wasn’t for the hard times and trials we literally wouldn’t be here serving in PNG. It was through all those hard things that we learned that God is always with us, that He is faithful, that He is trustworthy, that He gives abundant amounts of grace and that no matter what lies ahead He will be there to comfort us. So right now, when we cannot see whats ahead, we HAVE to believe that whatever God is doing and however hard it is, He is good and at the end of it we will know and love Him more.

"Blessed by the God and Father of our Lord Jesus christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comfors us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. " -2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Thank you for praying for us continually, giving sacrificially and for being a huge part of His work in Papua New Guinea! This is a minor speed bump in a much larger plan. We hope that in no time my health will be back to 100% and we will be back in PNG!
